I had two strikes against me and I was
waiting for the final strike to be called… Hi, I’m Charlie. A
dashing, handsome and loveable Golden Retriever, if I dare to say so
myself. The first strike came when my people didn’t come find me
when the police impounded me. The second strike was that my
whiskers are white (I’m about 8 years young—that’s only 56 in dog
years.) I guess age discrimination doesn’t just happen to humans.
That’s where it stood—me, in a cage, waiting out my five days,
hoping that a guardian would appear and save me from that horrible
strike that hits so many of the impounded animals not retrieved by
their people. This is where the Minnesota Humane Society comes into
my story. They called all of the no-kill programs in the area
trying to find a place for me. SUCCESS! One said they would take
me, but first I needed to be checked out by the vet. As a
Minnesota Humane Society volunteer transported me to the vet, I
wanted to somehow thank them. I laid my head on the volunteer’s
shoulder as she drove, hoping she would sense how grateful I was to
get this second chance.
But the story gets even better. The
vet checked me out and I was able to go to the program’s adoption
day that weekend. Guess what? I got a new family that very same
day! I’m safe, happy and loving these people with all my heart.
